Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane at
Olympic Studios, London, 1967
Steve Marriott and Ronnie
Lane had an unstoppable
attitude in the studio.
Always joking, goofing on
each other, but very focused
on their music. It
had to have energy and
balls! They were innovative.
Check out Itchycoo Park for
the imaginative use of
phrasing. Marriott’s voice is
a huge influence today on
some of the world’s top
bands, including the Black
Crowes. His raspy, bluesy
voice was also the
perfect foil for Peter
Frampton in one of the
great bands of the 70’s,
Humble Pie.
