Capturing A Generation

Eddie Kramer is mostly known as a producer/engineer working closely with the biggest names of an era he likes to call 'The Golden Age of Rock & Roll' ('67-'72). During that period the whole recording industry was a much better place in terms of the amount of freedom the bands were given in order for them to create their albums. Eddie was afforded the opportunity to take intimate pictures of Hendrix, The Stones and Zeppelin, by virtue of his close working relationship with them.

But it was with the camera that he was able to satisfy the other side of his creative brain. As a child Eddie was exposed to a wide range of art from his mothers sculptures and paintings to the prints that his father got for him to hang on the walls of his bedroom including Miro, Kandinsky, Klee, Hieronymous Bosch, Pieter Breugle, Dufy and many others. Because of Eddie's curiosity/interest in photography that was sparked by one of the tech staff at Olympic offering his Pentax for sale, he started to experiment with the camera as a means of expression and an outlet for his artistic temperament.

"I remember my father's friends having Leica's and was always fascinated at the way pictures were taken. I remember looking through the lens of my first Pentax and focusing on a face and seeing how the back ground would fade into soft focus and the sharpness of the the persons face would leap through the lens into my minds eye. I just loved taking pictures of people..

My hobby of photography has turned into much more of a business with my partner AJ Newton. She has been my muse and inspiration with her understanding of the visual arts, her painterly interpretation of many of my B/W images into amazingly vibrant color masterpieces. In addition to the existing 50 amazing images that is currently on the site, we are in the process of creating some new and exciting visual treats with the help of A& I Photo Labs and master printer Baret Lapejian, printing on new substrates as varied as Glass, Aluminum, Copper, Steel, Wood, etc."

"Watching my father Isgo Lepejian print in the B&W darkroom was one of the most magical experiences as a kid. Watching him "expose" a negative to photographic paper and then seeing the image come up in the "magic" water was truly mind boggling for me as a 6 year old kid. I watched and learned from my Dad then started seriously printing in a professional environment by the age of 14. Taking an image, any image weather shot beautifully or horribly, is the printer's responsibility to make into an art piece. The final fine art print is what goes up in galleries, museums, and homes. In Eddie's case, he is the legendary engineer with a camera who captured the most iconic rockers of the 20th century. His subjects are completely in their environment amongst friends. His images are one-of -a- kind views into a clandestine world." ~ Baret Lepejian, Master Printer, A&I Photographic and Digital Services
